For Authors
Submit ManuscriptTEE typically publishes unsolicited articles on a wide range of topics that will help practitioners use technology and engineering education to bring STEM to life. Feature manuscript length varies by type of article, see specifics on our Write for TEE page. Note that all figures, tables, references, and supplemental files are included when calculating the total word count of each submission. Follow the guidelines for the particular type of article you are submitting. Check with the journal editor if you have questions.
You will be asked to sign a copyright release to ITEEA during the submission process.
You are responsible for obtaining permissions for all student work and/or copyrighted material that you use in your manuscript. Please review ITEEA’s Copyright Guidelines prior to submission. Photographers and artists will be asked to sign a release before publication. Parental permission must be obtained if a student’s face is clearly recognizable in a photograph.
• Copyright Transfer Agreement
• Photo Release
Blinding
Author(s) names may appear only in the author information section. Take special care that no author identification appears in the manuscript. Use pseudonyms for students’ names, school names, and geographic locations. Blind funding sources, acknowledgements, and personal or institutional websites. All blinded items can be reinserted later should the manuscript be accepted for publication.
General Style Considerations
• Use the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual for style guidelines.
• Double space the body of your manuscript.
• Do not use footnotes.
• The first time you use an association, corporation, or business, use its full name, followed by its acronym in parentheses. In subsequent references, you may use the acronym only.
• Capitalize titles when they precede a person’s name, but lowercase when they follow the name.
• Spell out the numbers one through nine; from 10 on, use numerals.
• Paragraphs are composed of two or more sentences that develop a single idea. No paragraph should be longer than half a page.
• Do not use special formatting, such as colored fonts, filling cells in a table, or inserting graphics.
• Use long quotes/dialogue sparingly. Instead opt for the main idea.
• Word count is ideally between 2500-3500 words.
References and Quotations
Your reference list should be accurate and complete, as defined by the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual. References cited within the manuscript should be listed at the end of the manuscript. Exact quotes require page numbers in the in-text citation, per the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual.
Tables and Figures
• Tables and figures should be embedded within the manuscript, unless they are image files, then they should be uploaded as a separate file.
• Tables and figures should be located near their mention in text and must be referenced in text.
• If your manuscript is accepted for publication, high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi) images must be sent separately with the final manuscript. Photos of students involved in the work you are describing. Be sure students are participating in a safe manner and have appropriate safety attire.
• Only include tables and figures that enhance the manuscript. Do not include generic photos or information that is not directly related to the content of the manuscript.
• Figures must include a full-sentence caption.
Before Submitting the Manuscript
• Ensure your manuscript does not exceed the word count for the type of article.
• Ensure your manuscript is an original work that has not been published elsewhere.
• Ensure your manuscript does not promote a product, service, or company.
• Ensure your manuscript is blinded appropriately.
• Proofread your manuscript for grammatical and spelling errors.
• Proofread your manuscript for adherence to the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual.
• Review your references for accuracy and completeness.
• Explicitly address how safety guidelines are followed where appropriate.
• Make explicit connections to standards, such as the Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy or other national standards
Peer-Review Process
All submitted manuscripts are initially reviewed for adhering to these guidelines. Once this initial check is complete, the Editor in Chief (EiC) will review the manuscript for appropriateness to the journal audience. If the EiC reviews the manuscript and determines it could be appropriate for the journal, an Associate Editor (AE) will be assigned to manage the review process. The AE will assign three (3) reviewers to review the manuscript who will have 30 days to complete the review and make a recommendation to the AE. When all reviews are submitted, the AE will have one week to synthesize the reviews and make a recommendation to the EiC. The EiC will make the final decision. This process can take up to three months, but the journal strives to provide a quick turnaround time for review.
The following decisions may be given to a manuscript:
• Accept
• Accept with minor revisions
• Accept with major revisions
• Reject and encourage resubmission
• Reject
Manuscripts receiving an accept with minor revisions or accept with major revisions decision will have thirty days from the date of notification to make revisions. Major revisions will be reviewed by both the EiC and AE. Manuscripts receiving a reject and encourage resubmission decision will receive feedback for ways to improve the manuscript, but the revisions are likely to take longer than thirty days. Manuscripts receiving a reject decision will receive information for the decision (e.g., not appropriate for the audience of the journal).
Remuneration
ITEEA offers no remuneration for published articles.
